Application guides and advice
Clear steps to prepare surfaces, apply liquid rubber effectively, and get reliable protection for every job.
Surface preparation guide
A clean, dry, and dust-free surface ensures long-lasting adhesion and seamless waterproofing.
- Remove loose debris, peeling paint, and moss
- Wash thoroughly and allow to dry completely
- Prime porous or chalky masonry before coating
How to apply liquid rubber
Brush, roll, or spray in uniform coats to create a durable, UV-resistant waterproof membrane.
- Apply the first even coat across the target area
- Embed reinforcing membrane over joints and seams
- Apply second coat perpendicular to the first
Good to know
Fast answers to common questions about drying times, coverage rates, and substrate compatibility.
- Touch dry in 2–4 hours depending on temperature
- Average coverage is 1.5 to 2 litres per square metre
- Safe for concrete, corrugated iron, wood, and tiles
Frequently asked questions
Clear answers on application, durability, and waterproofing coverage for your property.
How long does the waterproofing coating last once applied?
When applied according to specifications on a clean surface, U-Proof coatings provide durable, long-lasting protection under typical South African UV and climate conditions. Routine inspection every 3 to 5 years helps identify any physical movement in flashings or expansion joints.
Can waterproofing products be applied during or right after rain?
No. Waterproofing products should not be applied during or immediately after rain. The surface must be completely dry and clean before application. Applying U-Proof Liquid Rubber to a wet surface can cause bubbles and adhesion problems. Allow at least 3 hours of drying time before rain or dew is expected after application.
What surfaces and roofing materials does U-Proof work on?
U-Proof is suitable for tiled roofs, concrete and raw concrete slab roofs, zinc/metal sheet roofs, and brick surfaces. It can also be used on other metal surfaces, provided the correct surface preparation and primer system is used.
Is a reinforcing membrane required with all liquid waterproofing?
No — reinforcing membrane is only required at joints, overlaps, valleys, cracks and other vulnerable areas.
How many coats are necessary for effective protection?
2 coats of U-Proof Liquid Rubber are recommended. Apply the first coat horizontally at approximately 0.5 kg/m², then the second coat vertically at approximately 0.5 kg/m², allowing 12 hours between coats. This gives a total application rate of about 1 kg/m².
Does the coating withstand standing ponding water?
Yes. Once fully cured and correctly applied, U-Proof Liquid Rubber forms a durable, seamless waterproof membrane that can withstand standing/ponding water.
