How to apply U-Proof coatings
Follow four practical steps to seal your roof and surfaces against extreme South African weather.
01. Choose the right product
Match the coating formulation to your surface type — corrugated metal, concrete slab, tile, or flashing joints.
02. Prepare the surface
Clean off dust, moss, and loose debris. Ensure surfaces are dry, sound, and free from oil or standing moisture. Fill visible cracks larger than 2mm first.
03. Apply the coating
Stir thoroughly and apply evenly with a roller, brush, or airless sprayer in overlapping cross-directional coats. Apply two coats for full weatherproofing depth.
04. Let it cure & protect
Allow 4 to 6 hours between coats and 24 hours for full cure. Avoid applying if rain is expected within 4 hours.
Helpful application tips
Surface preparation
Clean dust, moss, and loose debris thoroughly. Ensure the substrate is completely dry and structurally sound before starting.
Ideal weather window
Apply in dry conditions between 10°C and 35°C. Avoid application if rain or heavy dew is expected within 4 hours.
Even coat layering
Apply in two uniform cross-coats. Allow the initial base coat to become touch-dry before applying the final protective layer.
Curing and inspection
Allow 24 hours of full cure time before foot traffic or water exposure. Inspect seams and flashings for seamless coverage.
